This activity introduces systematic listing strategies |
Here are all the three stripe two colour snakes. Drag them in into some sort of logical order.
When you have finished, explain the way you have ordered the snakes to someone else.
On this page you are sorting type 2 snakes. You can also try:
Type 1
Type 3
Type 4
Type 5
Type 6
Type 7
Type 8
If the colours are not clear on your screen you can show the colour names.
InstructionsThe computer can not figure out whether or not you have a good systematic listing strategy so that is why it is important to show your sorted snakes to someone else when you have finished. It could be your freiend, teacher or a parent. You should convince them that you have a good strategy. A good system will enable you see easily if there are any snakes missing or any duplicates. Snake Sort GameTwo players could play the Snake Sort Game. It is quite a simple idea really! When one player is not looking the other hides one of the snakes from an unsorted page (this can be done by dragging the snake right down to the bottom of the page). The other player then has to find which snake is missing by sorting the remaining snakes and spotting the gap in the list. |

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician? Comment recorded on the 19 November 'Starter of the Day' page by Lesley Sewell, Ysgol Aberconwy, Wales: "A Maths colleague introduced me to your web site and I love to use it. The questions are so varied I can use them with all of my classes, I even let year 13 have a go at some of them. I like being able to access Starters for the whole month so I can use favourites with classes I see at different times of the week. Thanks." Comment recorded on the 1 August 'Starter of the Day' page by Peter Wright, St Joseph's College: "Love using the Starter of the Day activities to get the students into Maths mode at the beginning of a lesson. Lots of interesting discussions and questions have arisen out of the activities. |
Each month a newsletter is published containing details of the new additions to the Transum website and a new puzzle of the month. The newsletter is then duplicated as a podcast which is available on the major delivery networks. You can listen to the podcast while you are commuting, exercising or relaxing. Transum breaking news is available on Twitter @Transum and if that's not enough there is also a Transum Facebook page. |

Go MathsLearning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths page is an alphabetical list of free activities designed for students in Secondary/High school. Maths MapAre you looking for something specific?
