What is Transum?

Transum Mathematics is a collection of interactive maths resources created and maintained by a retired mathematics teacher. The aim is to provide teachers and learners with fresh, colourful and interesting activities that support lessons and independent study. The site is widely used by learners around the world.

Transum is a one-person project. There is no staff team. New activities and updates are published regularly and are made freely available for students to use. Some features allow learners to claim virtual trophies for the activities they complete.

The website is hosted by GoDaddy, a large international hosting company that provides the servers and infrastructure for the site. You can read the GoDaddy Privacy Policy.

Our own Privacy Policy explains what is collected, how it is used, and how your privacy is protected.

What is collected

Information you provide directly

  • Trophies and accounts. To record the trophies you earn, you may enter a unique identifier. You can choose either your email address or a Transum username. If you choose email, it is used only as a unique identifier and not for any other purpose.
  • Subscribers. If you purchase a subscription we collect the details needed to provide the service and manage your account. This usually includes name, email address, school or organisation details, and payment status information from our payment provider.
  • Class Admin and Random Students. Teachers who use these tools may enter class lists that include student first names or nicknames. Using first names or nicknames is recommended to protect privacy and anonymity.

Information collected automatically

  • Basic server logs. Standard web server logs are collected for security and reliability. This can include IP address, browser type, pages visited, date and time, and referral information.
  • Cookies or similar storage. Small files may be stored on your device to keep you signed in, to remember preferences, and to support features such as Class Admin. See the section on Cookies for details.

How your information is used

  • To provide interactive activities and to record your progress, including virtual trophies.
  • To run subscriber features and manage subscriptions.
  • To operate Class Admin and other teacher tools at your request.
  • To maintain the security, performance and reliability of the site, including fraud prevention and abuse detection.
  • To comply with legal obligations when applicable.

Transum does not sell personal information.

Cookies and similar technologies

Cookies are small text files that help the site work properly. You can control cookies in your browser settings. Blocking all cookies may affect some features.

Essential cookies

  • Class Admin sign in. If you tick “remember me”, the system remembers your email and an authentication token on your device so that you do not need to sign in each time you visit a Class Admin page. The token helps verify your session. It is not your password. This information is not used for other purposes.
  • Preferences and performance. Some activities remember settings, progress or layout choices so that your experience is smooth across visits.

Optional cookies

  • Advertising. See the Advertising section for details and opt outs.
  • Analytics. If analytics are used, they are configured to respect privacy and avoid identifying individuals. IP addresses may be truncated or anonymised where available.

Advertising

Some pages show adverts provided by third party advertising partners, almost exclusively Google. These companies may use cookies or similar technologies to show adverts that are more relevant to you. The information used for adverts does not include your name, address, email address or telephone number.

If you are under 13, do not submit personal information to the site. See the Children’s Privacy section.

Guidance for teachers and schools

  • When using Class Admin or Random Students, use only student first names or nicknames to protect privacy.
  • Teachers or schools that upload or enter student information act as the data controller for that information. Transum provides the tool and acts as a data processor on your behalf.
  • Delete class lists when they are no longer needed. You can request deletion at any time.

Data storage, security and location

  • Data is stored on GoDaddy servers. Security measures are in place to reduce the risk of loss, misuse or unauthorised access.
  • Data is encrypted in transit using HTTPS. Keep your passwords private and choose strong passwords for admin pages.
  • Servers may be located outside your country. If your data protection law applies, appropriate safeguards are relied upon through the hosting provider.

How long information is kept

  • Subscribers. Data entered during a subscription request and data entered into Class Admin by a subscriber is deleted three years after the subscription expires, or earlier on request. Some accounting records may be kept longer if the law requires this.
  • Trophies and usernames. Kept while the account or identifier remains active so that your progress is preserved. Remove it yourself where the option exists, or contact Transum to request deletion.
  • Server logs. Kept for a short period for security and troubleshooting, then deleted or anonymised.

When we share information

  • We do not sell personal information.
  • We may share information with service providers that help run the site, for example hosting and payment processing. These providers are allowed to use the information only to provide their service to us.
  • We may disclose information if required by law, to protect our rights, or to prevent abuse or harm.

Children’s privacy

Transum does not knowingly collect personal information from children. Trophies can be recorded using a Transum username instead of an email address. Children should choose a unique username that does not reveal their identity.

For users under 13 in the United States, the Children’s Online Privacy Protection Act (COPPA) applies. If a child uses an email address as a unique identifier, no other personal information is collected and the child cannot publish personal information on the site. The email address is not used to contact the child.

If you believe a child has provided personal information in error, please contact us and Transum will remove it.

Your rights

Depending on where you live, you may have the right to request access, correction, deletion, restriction, portability of your data, and the right to object to certain processing. You also have the right to withdraw consent where consent is the basis for processing.

To exercise these rights, contact Transum using the details below. Transum aims to respond within two working days.

If you think we have not handled your concern, you may have the right to contact your local data protection authority. In the United Kingdom this is the ICO: Make a complaint.

Changes to this policy

We may update this Privacy Policy from time to time to reflect new features or legal requirements. If the changes are significant we will post a clear notice on the site. The date at the top shows when the policy was last updated.
