There is also a printable worksheet of all the times tables from two to twelve.

Instructions

Try your best to answer the questions above. Type your answers into the boxes provided leaving no spaces. As you work through the exercise regularly click the "check" button. If you have any wrong answers, do your best to do corrections but if there is anything you don't understand, please ask your teacher for help.

When you have got all of the questions correct you may want to print out this page and paste it into your exercise book. If you keep your work in an ePortfolio you could take a screen shot of your answers and paste that into your Maths file.

Why am I learning this?

Mathematicians are not the people who find Maths easy; they are the people who enjoy how mystifying, puzzling and hard it is. Are you a mathematician?

Comment recorded on the 23 September 'Starter of the Day' page by Judy, Chatsmore CHS:

"This triangle starter is excellent. I have used it with all of my ks3 and ks4 classes and they are all totally focused when counting the triangles."

Comment recorded on the 6 May 'Starter of the Day' page by Natalie, London:

"I am thankful for providing such wonderful starters. They are of immence help and the students enjoy them very much. These starters have saved my time and have made my lessons enjoyable."

Each month a newsletter is published containing details of the new additions to the Transum website and a new puzzle of the month.

The newsletter is then duplicated as a podcast which is available on the major delivery networks. You can listen to the podcast while you are commuting, exercising or relaxing.

Transum breaking news is available on Twitter @Transum and if that's not enough there is also a Transum Facebook page.

Nim

A very old game but one which involves mathematical based strategies. Take turns with the computer to remove items from the piles. You can remove as many items from the same row as you like. Whoever removes the last item is the winner.

Go Maths

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those. The Go Maths page is an alphabetical list of free activities designed for students in Secondary/High school.

Maths Map

Are you looking for something specific? An exercise to supplement the topic you are studying at school at the moment perhaps. Navigate using our Maths Map to find exercises, puzzles and Maths lesson starters grouped by topic.

"If you are not up to answering the questions quickly enough you could start by just doing the left column. If you can manage that progress to the left two columns until you build up enough speed to try all of the columns. Each time you start the clock the questions change so you do not need to worry about repeating yourself! Enjoy."

"How can I embed the code for Beat The Clock into my Wordpress blog?
Would like to make your games a feature, but better than a link."

Transum,

"Thanks for your question Andy. It can be done by using an inline frame. Here is the code you will need:
<iframe id="I1" name="I1" src="https://www.transum.org/Maths/Activity/Beat_The_Clock/" style="width: 963px; height: 970px">
It needs copying and pasting as text (not visual)."

"Can you please add level 10 and 11, I have finished 9 so many times and I love this game but it is getting boring doing only level 9 all the time, I love challenges so can you please add a level 10 and 11.

[Transum: Well Asmi, if Level 9 is too easy for you I have now added a Level 10. Let's see if you can complete Level 10 before I start thinking about a Level 11. Keep up the good work.]"
