Cube Construction

This is a simple interactive that does nothing more than allow you to create 3D drawings of models made with cubes. Drag cubes from the left to construct your diagrams.

Each time a cube is dragged it is put on an invisible layer in front of the layers all the other cubes are on. Repeatedly double clicking a cube (or pressing the B button) sends it backwards one layer at a time.

The C button clears the cubes from the drawing area.

It was designed to be a tool for teachers or pupils to use when working on the following activities:

How many three-cube towers can you make if you can only use red and yellow cubes?
In how many different ways can four cubes be attached together face to face?
How many times bigger is a cuboid that is two cubes high, two cubes wide and two cubes deep compared with one that is one cube high, one cubes wide and one cube deep?

This is a wonderful activity for someone who does not know Roman numerals. By completing the activity an understanding of the symbols develops and a great sense of achievement is enjoyed.

Learning and understanding Mathematics, at every level, requires learner engagement. Mathematics is not a spectator sport. Sometimes traditional teaching fails to actively involve students. One way to address the problem is through the use of interactive activities and this web site provides many of those.
